Advantages of Eloping & Destination Wedding Photography for Brides & Photographers

bio pic

Just about any location can be a wedding destination for couples.  Perhaps you have not thought that even your own area can be too.  If visitors come to your village, town or city and make for certain attractions, you live in a potential wedding destination and, with a little forethought, can utilise that for your brides.

Destination wedding photography is a win-win for everyone involved.  Couples often choose to elope to a destination for a number of reasons:  to concentrate on the marriage itself, have a unique and memorable day, relive past visits to the area, have a simple and uncomplicated celebration, privacy, and combining wedding and honeymoon in one.  Each of these reasons obviously gives the couple distinct advantages.

When it comes to wedding photography, so many photographers lament the lack of time they have to photograph the bride and groom.  Destination elopements eliminate that problem almost entirely.  The photographers have ample opportunity to flex their creative muscles and pull out their entire repertoire of posing and lighting possibilities.  Giving the photographers the chance to work at their optimum, the couple has the advantage of the most inventive wedding photographs possible.  In addition, the extra time with the couple, allows the photographers to really get ‘inside’ the unique spirit which each wedding has and so, portray the couple, the atmosphere and the day optimally.

In each destination, there will likely be a number of exciting locations which can be visited for more creative photographs.  It may be possible for the photographers to visit all of these with the couple, making a grand tour and interesting story of the wedding day.

A day’s photography with one couple will stretch the photographers’ ingenuity (after all, no one wants to see the same basic posing in eight different locations!)  The photographers really must be inventive with posing.  Again though, this is a win for everyone – no stagnant or boring photography.  The bride is happy and so are her photographers!  The couple have beautiful, exclusive photographs to treasure and share.

Norma Skinner Biography

I began my photography career as a Scottish landscape photographer using Minolta film cameras.  I always loved being in the countryside and photographing in such beautiful locations.  Although I was enjoying what I did and selling internationally, I always longed to ‘try’ weddings but, using film, and knowing how vital someone’s wedding photographs were, I never would try.  When I shifted over to digital, I was still shooting landscapes but this was the opportunity I needed to photograph weddings.  I knew I needed new skills and put in a considerable amount of time studying and taking some intensive training with Jerry Ghionis.  Photographing weddings and portraits uses different techniques and skills and I believe we can all keep learning from each other.  Currently, I am enjoying the best of both worlds in the stunning Scottish scenery and photographing weddings together with my daughter, Roz.  It was Jerry who helped us work out the new name for our business – Euphoria.
